Quick Review: Across The Universe

Author: Beth Revis
Reviewer: Megzarooni

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules. Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next. Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming. (Via Shelfari)

Beth’s characters are definitely memorable! I loved Amy, Elder and Harley. They are all pretty much tied for first. Even the secondary characters had an impact on me. Their emotions were raw and at times intense. I felt angry and sad and happy and scared for them. They’re all a pretty spectacular cast.
I loved ATU’s concept! I don’t usually read science fiction, but the description for Beth’s novel made it really hard to ignore. Her descriptions were amazing, especially the cryro scene in the first chapter, and her plot twists are thrillingly brilliant. I must have changed my guess at the killer’s identity half a dozen times before the end!

And what an end it was; I was floored! Awestruck and in any other definition of the word. The last 12 chapters felt like an intense roller coaster. The fast kind with sharp turns, step drops and the surprise double loop near the end you never knew was there. It was spectacular and I can’t wait to read A Million Suns!
5/5 Real Stars!
